Our practice specializes in oral and maxillofacial surgery for patients of all ages, offering diverse treatments ranging from routine tooth extraction to wisdom tooth removal, as well as corrective jaw surgery and facial trauma surgery. Our services also include oral pathology which targets infections, cysts, and tumors of the facial bones. Additionally, Drs. Eugene F. Morris and Armando A. Gama are experts in dental implant placement and preparatory procedures such as bone grafts.
Learn moreDental implants are the most advanced tooth replacement option. These titanium posts are meticulously positioned and placed in the jaw bone, to serve as a root of the lost tooth. After your tissues heal around the titanium post, they become integrated in the jaw bone and serve as a stable support for a restoration. Once surgical care is complete, you return to your restorative dentist to have a crown, bridge, or denture placed. Our surgeons use the 1-Cat 3 dimensional x-ray imaging system as well as more conventional x-rays to determine the ideal for your implants.
Learn moreWe offer several types of jaw surgery to correct injuries, as well as congenital defects. Lower jaw surgery can address a severe underbite. We may use screws to realign your mandible, or we can reposition your broken or damaged jaw with a splint or wires. With a frenectomy, we will remove excess skin between your upper lip and gums; this extra tissue can cause speech impediments and dental misalignment.
Learn moreIf you have suffered facial trauma, our surgeons can restore your health and appearance. We most commonly treat broken and fractured jaws, and we will create a unique treatment plan to meet your needs. Dr. Gama or Dr. Morris may wire your jaw shut, or place metal plates to prevent further fractures. Whatever treatment you receive, we will realign your teeth and jaw to restore your oral health, dental function, and appearance.
Learn moreAs reports of oral cancer increase, oral biopsies become more important than ever. If your general dentist or physician has noticed any abnormalities that could indicate cancer, he or she may order a biopsy. These irregularities include lesions, sores, white or red patches, sensitivity, and more. Your physician may also request an oral biopsy if you have HPV, which can increase the risk of oral cancer. We will take a small sample and test it for oral cancer. Biopsy results typically come back in three to five days. With early diagnosis, oral cancer patients typically farewell.
Learn moreJawbone degeneration, a common side effect of tooth loss, can affect your facial structure. It can also prevent you from being a good candidate for dental implants since you must have a stable base for the implant posts. During a bone graft, your surgeon will build up your jaw structure. Our surgeons mix the grafting material with platelet-rich plasma (PRP). By using your own blood cells, we can speed healing and enhance bone regeneration. Additionally, EmdogainTM, a protein-rich material, can speed healing and bone regeneration by a third.
Learn moreTemporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) arises when your jaw joint is damaged or when the nearby tissues are inflamed. We offer a number of treatments for TMD. We may begin with prescription medication or refer you out for physical therapy. We can also manipulate your joint while you are under anesthesia. In severe cases, we may perform lysis and lavage. During this procedure, we will flush out your joints and inject an anti-inflammatory solution in the area.
Learn moreWe offer several sedation options to keep you comfortable during treatment. Local anesthesia may be the right choice for a minor procedure. Nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” can make you feel relaxed, euphoric, and/or sleepy. You might choose this method if you are anxious or if you are going to receive a more extensive procedure. General anesthesia, administered intravenously, will put you to sleep completely. We will help you choose the best option for your needs.
Learn moreCancer of the lips, tongue, cheeks, mouth, palate, sinuses, and throat all fall into the category of oral cancer. Over 43,000 Americans are diagnosed with oral cancer each year, or nearly 120 a day. When caught in its early development, oral cancer has a high survival rate. Unfortunately, when detected in its later stages, which is often the case, chances for mortality increase dramatically. To encourage early detection and save lives, The Oral Cancer Foundation is dedicated to increasing awareness about this disease.
Learn moreUnfortunately, most people do not have enough room to accommodate their wisdom teeth. As a result, these molars can cause dental misalignment. In some cases, wisdom teeth do not have enough room to come in, causing them to become impacted. Our surgeons can perform standard and complex wisdom tooth removal. However, we encourage our patients to have their teeth extracted at an early age. This will reduce their risk for complications and help keep their other teeth in proper alignment.
